Description
Perched on one of the highest spots on the isle of Inisheer in Ireland's Aran Islands, the ruins of O'Brien's Castle mark the spot where Medieval forces kept watch for invaders. Built in the 14th Century, the castle was lost to the O'Flaherty clan in 1582. Cromwell's forces took over in 1652, partially destroying the castle and leaving it in ruin. Those who inhabited this stronghold had a magnificent view of the mainland and Galway Bay.
